GROW UP
Oh, grow up— one would say you’re of an age
To behave more maturely at this stage
Perhaps some pain in you has never healed
And, every time you part your lips, it lies there revealed
Listening around corners, strained in vain
For if your ear were meant here, you would hear your name
Interrupting like a spoiled kid
You can’t help but to butt your uninvited comments in
It’s time to grow up— the world’s not going to slow up
And no one’s going to put up with childishness and carelessness for long
Do more and just grow up— clean your house and nose up
For no one’s going to show up and pay your way and carry you along
You’ve got to do it for yourself
You’ve got to do it for yourself
You must give thought to others’ feelings, too
For what you hate in them, you really simply hate in YOU
Apologize— all faults will be recalled
The choices of one will affect the futures of all
Pick up your trash— no one will clean for you
Watch your own back and always make to guard yourself, for true
Press your edge and become something more
And if you wish for peace, you must be prepared for war
It’s time to grow up— the world’s not going to slow up
They’re laughing when you give up; start making haste with sturdiness and speed
Do more than just show up— raise your chin and own up
Push to get what you want— you’re going to have to fight for what you need
You’ve got to do it for yourself
You’ve got to do it for yourself
Grow up
